LEAGUE
WHITWORTHS 1 V 1 DAVENTRY UNITED
Whitworths: Lee Baxter, Anthony Sharp, Paul Smith, Lukasz Saluda (Luke Raftery), Kris Line, Stuart Goosey, Niall Belfon (James Mallows), Danny O'Neil, James Daldy, Carlton Ellwood, Ian Symington (Devon Ellwood).
Daventry: Roger Leeson, Rob Steele, Leigh Roberts, Ross Irvine, Allan Haynes, Wayne Richardson, Lee Reynolds, Ian Waldock (Michael Parkes), Tommy Waldock, Tony Burt, Joel Young.
Carlton Ellwood's late goal for Whitworths proved decisive in this season's title race as it left pacesetters Daventry Town uncatchable by neighbours United.
United had won nine of their ten previous games and they looked set to prolong the championship race a little longer when Tonmy Waldock's 27th minute goal, his 22nd of the season, gave them the lead at London Road. United had chances to go further ahead as again they struggled to capitalise on a good start.
Tony Burt had a glorious chance to put this game out of reach from three yards, he blasted his shot over the bar when it was possibly easier to score than miss. That said, United were guilty of giving the ball away cheaply and slack marking and this was another disappointing performance from the lads from the Royal Oak.
