DAVENTRY UNITED  3  v  3  WHITWORTHS

Daventry: Shaun Allen, Ben Collins, Leigh Roberts, Ady Pestell, Jamie Moss, Lee Reynolds (Wayne Richardson), Michael Parkes, Ian Waldock (Allan Haynes), Tommy Waldock, Tony Burt, Joel Young (Jamie Jollands).

Whitworths: Craig Patterson, Luke Raftery, Paul Smith (Lukasz Mikolaczyk), Kris Line (Lukasz Saluda), James Gorman, Stuart Goosey (James Mallows), Devon Ellwood, Anthony Sharp, Cavell Jarvis, Ian Symington, James Wright.

United entertained last year's Division One Champions on this cold and blustery 1st day of December. They were in no mood to give anything away as Tommy Waldock opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and he added his second when he finished a sweeping move with a superb right foot volley taken at speed. Whitworths did not know what had hit them!

Symingtom replied for the visitors on the half hour, but Leigh Roberts restored the two goal deficit with a 25 yard free kick two minutes before the half-time whistle.

United came out for the second half looking as if they had won this one, and paid the price of sitting on their laurels as Symington and Elwood drew Whitworths level with ten minutes remaining. Tommy Waldock sprang the defence with seconds to go only to see his chance go agonisingly wide of the post.

This was two points thrown away for United rather than a point gained.
