Sat at different ends of the table some may have thought that this game would be a walk in the park for Wellingborough , not so as Jonathan Crockett opened the scoring on 30 minutes, Fords competed over every inch of the park and Wellingborough were struggling to find a way through a solid Ford defence.
Just before the half hesitation in the Ford back line allowed ex Ford man Dave Bond to poke the ball over the advancing Stratulatus into an open net.
Early in the second half Fords Stephen Thompson was hacked down from behind , he was then sent off for retaliation, although the reaction of the visiting bench may have swayed the verdict.
Wellingborough were awarded a penalty shortly after and Darren Collins screwed this wide, the ten men battled across the park and only went behind when Darren Collins scrambled the ball in at the far post.
Wellingborough then extended their lead with a brilliant strike from John Mitchell but never say die Fords pulled one back through Paul Currier but just didn’t have enough in the engine to find an equaliser.
