DAVENTRY UNITED 1 v THRAPSTON TOWN 0

Daventry: Roger Leeson, Rob Steele, Leigh Roberts, Ross Irvine, Allan Haynes, Wayne Richardson, Liam Hynes, Ian Waldock, Tommy Waldock (Todd Sawko), Tony Burt (Lee Reynolds), Joel Young.

As they found out last week, nobody will roll over for them to give them promotion back to the Premier Division and Thrapston were no exception, On a typical Royal Oak day United played against the wind in the first half, with the wind in their faces United played some lovely football as they  pinned back Thrapston into their own half, but they could not find that final finish to capitalise on the good build-up play.

The first half ended in stalemate but with United having the better of the early exchanges. United started the second half like a rocket and soon had Thrapston camped in their own penalty area but it took a little bit of good fortune for them to go ahead. Wayne Richardson marked his return to the starting line up with a goal in the 65th minute when his cross shot went in at the far post. United had earlier seen Tommy Waldock hit the cross bar and Tony Burt fire just wide.

United saw the rest of the second half out with ease to collect all three points.

A welcome start from inspirational skipper Alan Haynes saw us keep our first clean sheet since January but an all round better performance from the whole team.
