THRAPSTON TOWN 1 V 2 DAVENTRY UNITED

United travelled to Thrapston on the back of a disappointing end to 2007.
But boy, did they enter 2008 with a bang! After only eleven minutes, top scorer Tommy Waldock poked the ball home to give United the lead. They continued to push Thrapston back but could not find a way past Thrapston’s keeper Kyte who had an outstanding game. They paid the price when Glen Turner headed home from close range to send the teams in for the break all square.
Again United pushed Thrapston back into their own half of the pitch but it took an individual piece of brilliance to settle this tie. Joel Young sprang the offside trap and was one on one with the keeper, the keeper saved his first effort but he turned quickly to collect the ball from the rebound and chipped the ball over the stranded defenders to give United all three points.
In the end, United deserved their three points and if this hard working start to the year continues who knows what can happen.
