Three points at last, we’ve been threatening to do this for some time now and finally the lads produced the goods.
This was a match we had to get something from.
We started like a greyhound out of the traps with Johnathan Crockett smashing his left foot drive against the upright, then on 9 minutes Cuz was bundled over 25 yards out and the free kick was awarded, Timmy Clacks quick thinking and quick free kick curled into the top left hand corner to give Fords the lead.
Stotfold battled hard and had chances to pull level, Frank Maher saw his shot cannon back of the cross bar just before the break and Cuz was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when he was brought down in the area.
All square at half time and like so many times before Fords started the second half slow, Stotfold were allowed a lot more space than in the first and were gradually beginning to take control of this game, then on the hour mark both of Fords central defenders went near post and Stotfold’s Lee Downham was all on his own and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
The next few minutes were vital as Fords showed there vulnerable side, then with 20 minutes to go they kicked in again and Stotfold were the team on the back foot.
All the late pressure told when Fords were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes to go, Frank Maher stepped up and saw his penalty saved.
Fords did not dwell on this and Maher’s influence on this game was getting greater by the second, with 5 minutes to go he crossed the ball into a crowded penalty area and an off balance Simeon Nembhard fired his shot into the roof of the net to give Fords the lead.
Maher was again pulling the strings as he laid the ball out wide for Paul Currier who crossed the ball to Sigitas Kezmekas who took his shot first time to give Fords an un catch able 3-1 lead.
Simeon Nembhard and Danny Wright came of the bench for their debut’s and on a less positive note Lewis Waldock walked of with an arm injury.
