Saturday 24 March 2007
St Ives: Rob Mackney, Jason King, Warren Everdell, Dan Newman, Will Fordham, Dan Pilsworth, Lloyd Howard (Callum Mackay), Ian Fovargue, Chris Ewles (Liam Kennett), Graeme Thackray, Stefan Lewis.
Fords: Andy Millard, Ben Collins, Rob Steele, Ian Waldock, Alan Haynes, Duncan Harris, Liam Hynes, Matty Cox, Danny Wright, Paul Currier, Simeon Nembhard.
Fords welcomed back central defender Duncan Harris for this re-arranged game but also lost the services of new signing Reuben Max Grant with a groin strain.
Fords started well but Robbie Steele was punished on thirteen minutes for a rash tackle just outside the Fords area, the result was a well taken free kick into the top corner to give St Ives the lead.
This spurred Fords on but they just could not find the equaliser and trailed the home side by one goal at half time.
The second half turned into a bit of a midfield scrap, Matty Cox worked tirelessly and Simeon Nembhard on the other flank marked his return with a solid performance. It was Cox however who pulled Fords level when his shot at goal was deflected and looped over the St Ives Keeper.
A draw would probably been a fair result but fate dealt us a right kick in the nuts. In the ninety-seventh minute Fords Alan Haynes made a tackle, he won the ball which then broke free to a St Ives player. He then crossed the ball, the St Ives centre forward couldn't control the ball and Fords managed to clear it. At that point the official decided that the tackle made by Haynes was an illegal challenge and pulled back the play for a St Ives free kick because they had gained no advantage.
The rest is history as St Ives scored from the free kick and we had no time to respond.
MOM: Duncan Harris
