They just keep getting tougher, Northampton Sileby Rangers
were next in the way of United’s quest for promotion. With recent results faring
well for Sileby, this was going to be no pushover. With Skipper Alan Haynes
still missing and Wayne Richardson away on holiday there were a couple of forced
changes to be made, Ady Pestell filled the boot’s of Haynes and Tony Burt
switched to right midfield with Liam Hynes back alongside Tommy Waldock. United
started the brighter forcing Sileby to defend deep. Joel Young’s 'mazey' runs
were a constant threat in the opening encounters and when he centred the ball in
the seventh minute it went straight into the back of the net.
First blood to United, but as they did a
week earlier they could not build on this start with both Liam Hynes and top
scorer Tommy Waldock both missing golden chances to extend United’s lead. The
first half ended at 1-0 to the visitors and all was to play for. Again United
started the fresher and with only three minutes on the clock Tommy Waldock
created mayhem in the Sileby area and Tony Burt smashed the ball into the net to
give United the goal they needed. Again as they did before, United sat back on
their laurels and within a minute of the re-start Sileby’s Nick Kling had pulled
one back for the home side. United continued to cause the Sileby defence all
sorts of problems but could not find a way through until the 69th
minute when Tommy Waldock picked up on a rebound and found the corner of net via
the far post to restore United's two goal deficit.
The goal scoring entertainment ended at this moment and it
turned into the yellow card show as twice the referee’s assistant had a hand in
players getting booked and the count of yellows ended up at 3-2 in United’s
favour.
