SATURDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2007

LEAGUE DIVISION 1

 DAVENTRY UTD  1  V  3  RUSHDEN & HIGHAM

Daventry: Roger Leeson, Rob Steele, Adrian Pestell, Richard Pannell, Jamie Moss, Wayne Richardson (Jamie Jollands), Michael Parkes, Liam Hynes (Lee Reynolds), Tommy Waldock, Tony Burt, Leigh Roberts.

Rushden & Higham: Phil Turner, Lee Dorrington, Ben Lord, Ryan Shave, Wayne Abbott, Gary Broadway (Matt Curtis), Martin Mitchell (Karl King), Steve Ainge, Kris Hall (Tom Woods), Jim Le Masurier, Craig Harrower.

The not so impressive reared it’s ugly head again as United suffered their first league defeat back in Division One, as improving Rushden & Higham claimed a fifth successive win in league and cup.

Daventry took the lead through Leigh Roberts after twelve minutes but R&H player boss Jim Le Masurier transformed the match as the interval approached. He levelled in the 44th minute and gave the Lankies the lead in the dying seconds of the half. Both goals resulted from booming clearances by keeper Phil Turner with Steve Ainge flicking on for the first and Kris Hall doing likewise for the second.

The visitors wrapped up the win ten minutes into the second half through Hall, and the woodwork denied substitute Karl King a fourth.

United need to find some consistency if they are to push for top honours this season.
