United started the game a little shaky with Raunds firing just wide early on, this was the wake up call for United as they then realised they were in their first competitive game of the season.
United had possibly the better chances initially with Jamie Jollands, Wayne Richardson and all having chances saved, that said, you have to score with some of these chances and United paid the price when in the twelfth minute a rare mistake from United’s defence allowed Danny Frid to run through unchallenged and chip the advancing Millard to give Raunds the lead.
After this United looked a little nervous for a few minutes and allowed Raunds to take control for a while and were lucky not to concede again, After gathering their composure again United began to drag themselves back into the game and Jamie Jollands forced an excellent save from the Raunds Keeper from one of his trademark free kicks. Ady Pestell then watched his shot hit the side netting as United pushed for an equaliser but could not find it.
Ten Minutes before the break United went to sleep and Jake Upton sprang the defence and slotted the ball under the advancing Millard a killer blow for a United side that for long periods had been on top.
United came out for the second half and continued to attack Raunds and Tommy Waldock had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside but still United could not find the back of the net, Joel Young made his senior debut coming on for Jamie Jollands and showed that he can make a go of it at this level.
Although a disappointing result United will have to look at the fact that this was their first competitive game of the season against a premier division club who have already played two matches, unfortunately it was in the F.A Cup and we will have no chance of dragging it back over the course of the season.
