LEAGUE

DAVENTRY UNITED  3  v  2  OLNEY TOWN

Daventry: Roger Leeson, Rob Steele, Leigh Roberts (Allan Haynes), Ross Irvine, Ady Pestell, Tony Burt, Michael Parkes (Todd Sawko), Ian Waldock, Tommy Waldock, Liam Hynes, Joel Young.

Olney: Stuart Keeping, Tom Hanson, Adam Risby, Jamie Harris, Tim Mason, Scott Wrighting, Dominic Inggall, Tom Collins, Steve Foster, Danny Wilkinson (Matt Czuba), Ian Lindop.

United started the brighter in this promotion battle with Tommy Waldock notching his 20th of the season on eleven minutes. Daventry’s lead was short lived as Ian Lindop latched onto a bad clearance and smashed his shot back over the helpless Leeson into the United net. Olney struck again when United’s defence failed to close down Danny Wilkinson, and he made no mistake with his finish to give Olney the lead going into the half time break.

After the break, United came out hard and fast, and within five minutes were back on level terms when Liam Hynes thundered his header past Olney’s keeper to cap a man of the match performance. United still did not have it their own way as they conceded a succession of corners to a pressing Olney Town. Fortunately for United, they managed to ride the storm and sealed all three points when Joel Young smashed the ball home from close range.

United’s 'never give up' attitude is bringing the points home and they will need to continue in that vein if they are to complete the goal set at the start of the season of promotion at the first attempt.
