IRCHESTER UTD 0 V 7 DAVENTRY UNITED
Daventry: Shaun Allen, Leigh Roberts, Adrian Pestell, Rob Steele, Ben Collins, Olly Stanbridge, Michael Parkes, Lee Reynolds, Tommy Waldock, Tony Burt, Joel Young. Subs; Liam Hynes, Alan Haynes, Darran Foster.
United travelled to Irchester on the back of last weeks win over Daventry Town. Fozzy had to make five changes from last weeks team, Jamie Moss 2 match suspension, Richard Pannell and Wayne Richardson injured and Jamie Jollands and Ryan Waldock away on holiday, and the obvious change of a new goalie, inspired performance against the Town but another week of Fozzy between the sticks...... NO THANKS.
Shaun Allen has been added to the squad and his wealth of experience between the sticks will be a great asset to the squad, also for this game we welcomed the return of Captain Alan Haynes, Joel Young and Liam Hynes from injury and illness and welcomed new signing Olly Stanbridge.
Onto the game, and United started well when in the first five minutes Lee Reynolds saw his shot saved well by Irchester’s Warren Courtney. Courtney again saved well from Tommy Waldock minutes earlier. United were using their wide men with piercing effect with Joel Young linking well with the front two and Olly Stanbridge making piercing runs on the right. It was a 'mazy' run by Stanbridge that saw him leave the Irchester defence in his wake and square the ball for Tony Burt to smash home to give United the lead. Ten minutes later, Tommy Waldock latched onto a through ball from Michael Parkes and fired the ball past Courtney into the net with a fierce left foot volley.
2-0 at half time and the wind behind them for the second half, United looked comfortable. 9 minutes in and United were on the attack constantly as Irchester struggled against United’s flowing pass and move game which resulted in Waldock's second of the game firing low underneath the advancing keeper. Waldock completed his hat trick on 70 minutes when finishing another good move from United with a simple tap in. On 74 minutes Olly Stanbridge squared the ball for Lee Reynolds to make it five. Lee Roberts made it six with an exquisite chip over the stranded Courtney and Tommy Waldock added a fourth and United’s seventh when he rounded the keeper in the 85th minute.
At last the lads put together back to back performances and this was another top draw performance! No, Irchester did not play well but United tore them apart time and time again. The pleasing thing was the strength of the squad as with the six enforced changes we had the depth to replace them with players of equal quality.
