DAVENTRY UNITED 2 v 1 IRCHESTER UNITED

Daventry: Roger Leeson, Rob Steele, Leigh Roberts (Aidy Pestell), Ross Irvine, Allan Haynes, Wayne Richardson, Michael Parkes, Jamie Jollands (Matt Higgins), Tommy Waldock, Liam Hynes (Richard Price), Joel Young.

Irchester: Warren Courtney, Chris Gell, Dave Maguire, Neil Garrett, Gary Evans (Simon Henry), Ben Hyams, Craig Sturgess (Wayne Johnson), Michael Betts, Jason Vaughan, Gary Marks, Mark Dudley.

This was never going to be the same walkover as the previous encounter! If you look into the table and results of late you will see that although they still have not won many games, Irchester are proving to be a very difficult side to beat. United were looking to finish January unbeaten to sustain their promotion bid and started well when Tommy Waldock went through twice on goal only to be denied by the heroics of Warren Courtney in the Irchester goal. It wasn’t until the 25th minute that United went ahead through an Alan Haynes spot kick awarded after Micheal Parkes had his piercing run into the box abruptly ended in the Irchester penalty area.

Irchester are definitely built of sterner stuff these days and levelled the scores through Gary Evans seven minutes into the second period. United continued to press for the winner with Wayne Richardson and Tommy Waldock denied goals by the impressive Courtney, but there was nothing he could do about the 60th minute winner from Richardson who found himself all alone in the box and smashed the ball into the net to give United all three points.
