Eynesbury: Danny Workman, Rob Modrovsky, Paul Morris, Jon Cole, Dan Woodhead, Laurence Revell, Scott Kingsbury, Neil Morris, Kris Watters (Gary Beard), Craig Whittaker (Ben Hall), Ian Dawkes (Ross Morgan).

Daventry: Shaun Allen, Ben Collins (Ross Irvine), Leigh Roberts, Ady Pestell, Alan Haynes, Wayne Richardson, Michael Parkes (Rob Steele), Ian Waldock, Joel Young Tony Burt (Liam Hynes), Jamie Jollands.

On a day when only six of the thirty scheduled league games in the UCL went ahead we travelled to Eynesbury expecting to be sent back home before we kicked a ball. Torrential rain and strong winds were the order of the day as we left Daventry, but as we drew nearer to Eynesbury the weather was definitely better. On arriving at Eynesbury the pitch, to their credit looked very good, very heavy but good.

United jumped out of the gates in this fixture and stand-in striker Joel Young smashed his effort against the crossbar. Four minutes later Tony Burt met a Jamie Jollands centre only to see his shot agonisingly hit the side netting. It was not all one way traffic as Shaun Allen had to tip the ball over from an Eynesbury corner and made a good save low to his right from a free kick late in the half.

Eynesbury's Danny Workman kept United at bay when he tipped Tony Burt's goal bound header over the bar.

Again United came straight out of the blocks as the second half began, with only four minutes of the second half gone, Wayne Richardson pushed the ball through to Joel Young who then threaded the ball back to Richardson, who squared the ball to Tony Burt, Burt then looked up and curled the ball just out of the reach of Workman to give United the lead. With the first goal in the bag United pushed forward for a second. Joel Young flashed another just wide then in the 67 minute a Jamie Jollands corner found Alan Haynes unmarked in the box and headed United into a two goal lead.

Jamie Jollands was proving a thorn in Eynesbury’s side as his set pieces were causing havoc. From a Jollands free kick, the Eynesbury defence failed to deal with the delivery and Joel Young pounced for a deserved first for him and more importantly a third for United. Three up and now cruising, Fozzy was able to give the bench a good run out, and with Ben Collins and Tony Burt carrying slight niggles it was a chance for Liam Hynes to return from injury and Ross Irvine a debut. Keen to give all the subs a good run out, Rob Steele then replaced Micheal Parkes in the centre of mid field.

With 15 minutes remaining on the clock Eynesbury began to self destruct as firstly Neil Morris was booked for a foul, then was sent off for arguing with the official. United went further ahead when Leigh Roberts glanced his header passed the keeper. Things got worse for Eynesbury as they failed to keep their discipline and Scott Kingsbury was the next Eynesbury player to be sent from the field of play. With only five minutes left of this match, debutant Ross Irvine sprinted out of defence and slid a pass through to Joel Young who cut inside and stroked his second and United's fifth.
