Derby day, we seem to have had loads of these all ready this season but they are still the biggest games of the year. The day didn't start well as Fozzy lost the services of Shaun Allen (Flu) Liam Hynes (Flu) and Lee Reynolds (Ligaments), and as you all know getting someone to fill in on Boxing Day at short notice is nigh on impossible. United started well and on twelve minutes, Tommy Waldock pounced on a loose ball in the town area and smashed the ball home. The lead was short lived as a Town corner saw Danny Finlay take a wild swing at the ball, it spun off his shin and looped over Leeson in the United goal.
It stayed that way until the end of the half with United just edging it on chances. The second half was normal service until Richard Westley found himself all on his own at the far post and he smashed Town into the lead. United pushed for an equaliser and came close on a couple of occasions but could not find the finish they needed, Tony Burt left the field with a back injury and Westley finally put the game out of United’s reach in the 88th minute when his free kick beat Leeson. This was a much improved performance but injuries are beginning to take their toll on the United squad.
