Derby Day, United v Town, the local papers built the game up and the players were ready. The problem was they left it in the changing room.

1-0 down after six minutes after United keeper Millard parried a shot into the path of Paul Saunders who had an easy finish as United's defence left him unmarked. You would have thought that things couldn't get worse, but they did! United lost Ady Pestell with a head injury which required twelve stitches, then in the twenty first minute, Town's Tom Berwick burst clear of the United defence to slot the ball past Millard.

Moments later there were more injury woes for United as Millard's knee crumpled underneath him and he was unable to continue, and he was the second player to visit the Hospital as United were again forced to make a substitution with Leeson taking over between the sticks. Half time came and went and the second half was pretty much the same, as Town continued to dominate the midfield and extended their lead through Richard Wesley. Two further late goals from Chris Goodwin and Danny Finlay furthered United’s misery.

All United can take from this game is they now know the level they have to achieve if they wish to win the league.
