BURTON PARK WANDERERS 1 V 3 DAVENTRY UNITED

Daventry: Roger Leeson, Rob Steele, Leigh Roberts, Ross Irvine, Allan Haynes, Wayne Richardson (Todd Sawko), Lee Reynolds, Ian Waldock (Michael Parkes), Tommy Waldock, Tony Burt, Joel Young (Ady Pestell)

With the wind blowing into their faces United put on a well disciplined  performance in the first half of this fixture. They were unfortunate to go in 1-0 down at the break through a fortunate Darran Halfyard goal which looped over keeper Leeson’s head. With the wind came the snow and with ten minutes of the first half remaining the wind and snow was that fierce that Referee Helen Fulcher Ward took both teams off the pitch until the passing storm blew over. United had chances to level the score in the first period but again were guilty of over-playing in the final third.

The second half started better when after only one minute Wayne Richardson’s corner found Tommy Waldock and he headed United level. United began to turn the screw as they set up camp in Burton’s half, and they paid a price for this victory with Ian Waldock having a re-occurrence of his ankle injury and Joel Young suffering a calf strain, although Young was able to continue and with sixteen minutes of the second half gone. His corner fooled everybody and went straight in to give United a deserved lead. Lee Reynolds was pulling all the strings in midfield and Burton had no answer for him.

United continued to press and seven minutes later the Burton keeper smashed his clearance against his own defender and Tommy Waldock was alert enough to turn and smash the ball into the back of the empty net.
