Boston Town : Details to follow
Another game, another line up. Due to R. Crockett and S Thompson being unavailable and D. Harris still injured from the previous game, a new defensive line up was needed. This meant that J. Crockett and I Waldock moved from midfield to centre back and sweeper respectively. On the morning of the game goalkeeper Ian Brookes injured his hand so this meant a recall for ‘Tolli’ who’s last game was the away fixture at Boston.
The first 15 minutes of the match were fairly even but Fords did force 3 corners. During one penetrating run by Tommy Waldock, he was brought down just outside the box and Crockett’s free kick was blocked by the defending wall. Another attack down the right side by Timmy Clack brought Paul Currier into the game with a penetrating pass along the line. Currier crossed the ball only for T. Waldock to just miss a connection for a certain goal. At the other end, Tolli had only one save to make in the first 15 mins. 5 mins later Boston had a glorious chance to open the scoring when Nuttall ran down the left and crossed only for Bull to nod over the bar when scoring seemed easier. Another attack by Fords went unrewarded when Lewis Waldock broke down the left side and passed to T. Waldock and the keeper made a save from a strong shot. Fords finished the half strongly but at times overplayed the ball in their opponents third of the pitch. Someone needed to take charge and force more shots. Eventually L. Waldock brought another fine save to force another corner. Half time even at 0-0.
Boston, as you would expect from a team in the top 3 came out fighting, but Fords matched them for the first ten mins. Tolli made some good saves and in particular a double save in the 50th min.
Due to a continuing injury, Tommy Waldock was subbed in the 63 min for ’Greg’ Kazemekas. Boston then enjoyed the better of the next 20 mins with Fords needing some determined defending. Boston also made a couple of subs during this time as pressure was put onto Fords, culminating with a shot that ‘Tolli’ could only parry out to the feet of Bull, who tapped the ball past the prone keeper in the 78th min. Fords kept pushing for the equaliser and during one of the advances, the ball was lost and Boston sprung an attack, which seemed to catch the defence in two minds. The ball was taken into the box and 3 players went to block the expected shot only for the player to pass the ball to the far post for an easy tap in by Bull for his second 5 mins after his first. Fords then put Boston under attack for the final 7 mins plus injury but could not break them down. Overall it was a fairly even game and the defence did well to hold out until the 78th minute but Boston just edged it.
